\nThis was a big non-isue in Indiana. Everyone forgot about it being a controversy after the 1st meet. I don't know if its its responsible for Indiana's recent success but XC is alive and well in IN. I'd like to see the state be the first to move to 6K to be consistent with the college distance. This will allow us to continue to kick Illinois' higher population ass.

\n
\nThat's exactly how I feel about MN girls moving to 5k. Everyone will forget about it after the first race or two.
\n
\nIn the MNCrossCountryHub article it has this quote: "About 80 percent of coaches in both classes said in the survey that they believed girls are physically able to race 5,000 meters"
\nI'd really like to hear the reasoning behind the 20% that don't believe girls can race 5k.
\n
\nYou would think that almost every coach\/school that hosts a meet would be in favor of girls running 5k as well, if only to make prepping for the race easier by only having to set up 1 course (except races with a 2 mile\/Middle School race).","date_added":"Sep 27th 2013, 4:44am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":180362,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-4047.jpg","pb_title":"Nelly","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=4047","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/Nelly.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"3240"},"868247":{"pb_id":"44418","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"868247","comment_id":"868247","member_id":"44418","comment":"So the point of cross country is that everyone find the bell curve and run for 17-21 minutes?
\n
\nCome on. Cross country is about getting from Point A to Point B, covering the distance. There is only one reason that girls in some states run shorter races and its roots are easily traceable.","date_added":"Sep 27th 2013, 3:12am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":{"wally_id":"1082747","email_settings":"4294967295","email":"dbind4@aol.com","address":"DougB","gender":"u","member_id":"44418","member_name":"DougB","avatar_location":"av-44418.jpg","avatar_type":"upload","avatar":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg"},"can_delete":false,"item_id":180362,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg","pb_title":"DougB","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=44418","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/DougB.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1082747"},"868354":{"pb_id":"51018","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"868247","pid":"868354","comment_id":"868354","member_id":"51018","comment":"Well SAID!","date_added":"Sep 27th 2013, 8:13am","nest":1,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":180362,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-51018.png","pb_title":"David Taylor @XCnation","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=51018","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/David-Taylor--XCnation.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1225766"},"868207":{"pb_id":"50352","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"868207","comment_id":"868207","member_id":"50352","comment":"This was a big non-isue in Indiana. Because girls complete the course in longer time, the same distance is, in a sense, a longer race for girls. What is the equivalent race for girls can be debated. Equal average time would be a course that is about 10% shorter than the boys' course. Equal pace would be much shorter. A height-adjusted equal pace would be about half the distance. So it's not straightforward.","date_added":"Sep 27th 2013, 12:29am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":180362,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"https:\/\/fbcdn-profile-a.akamaihd.net\/static-ak\/rsrc.php\/v2\/yo\/r\/UlIqmHJn-SK.gif","pb_title":"bobgrimes","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=51074","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/bobgrimes.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1229415"}},"last_id":"868173","url":"comments.php?item_type=news&item_id=180362&item_url=profile.php?member_id=51018"}
