I'm pretty sure Ryun or Paul\/Kenny diidn't get "beat" by a 5:17 miler.  You are right though Paul did run a good time in the 7th grade.  5:11 is still quite a ways a way from Ryun's 4:59 in 7th grade. (Also Notably 4:45ish) in the 8th grade.  Your title is fitting though "Dream the Impossible"!  On a side note. Qualifying for the Junior Olympics is pretty simple: especially in the Northwest.  If you want real stats. Take a look at those years you "qualified" and compare them to Ry Stone, and his brothers.  which still doesn't mean much.  It's the off season for everyone.  Also keep in mind the hundreds of thousands of dollars those folks were paid in tuition because of their talents.  Going sub 5:00 in junior high paid for their education and lifestyle to this day!
